doing good i just started to we are using obsidian i want to try bottles to .i want to make up a set of hunting arrows keep up the nice work i like the different colors
Its very intriguing how the obsidian and the glass are different. I did a couple arrowheads today and also played with another piece of red-obsidian and Overall I do think a clean piece of obsidian (meaning No faults) is easier to flake — as oppose to Flint or chert which is harder. But the overall process of taking a hunk of Obsidian rock and making hunting arrowheads is still this incredible process that’s hard to rationalize. And Sharp!!!! Nothing is sharper than a clean flake of obsidian– glass doesn’t even come close.
By the way if you haven’t tried Antler yet for flaking — DO SO!!! Antler flakes so much easier then copper, It just catches the edge/platforms better and makes a wonderful snapping sound. BUT Antler does wear down quite fast, which I’m sure why copper replaced it as a flaker.
Thank you for Your comments. Do you have a site to show off the Arrowheads?! I’d be quite interested.
New arrowhead pictures will be up relatively soon bar the holidays:)
